Preserving the spirit of the Royal Air Force since 1916

The Heritage Centre tells the story of RAF Marham and aviation in East Anglia, from its beginnings as a Royal Flying Corps Home Defence Airfield in 1916 through to the Second World War, the Cold War, today’s modern operations and the Tornado GR4. It also looks forward to the arrival of the F35 Lightning with No. 617 Squadron ‘The Dambusters’.

It provides a fitting tribute to all ex and serving members and is a lasting historical legacy to the enduring memory of the last RAF Airbase in Norfolk. The centre promotes the historical aspects of the airbase whilst encouraging learning through respect for those who have given their lives in the service of their country in all conflicts since 1916.

Heritage Centre staff are currently creating an archive of material, capturing, archiving and referencing photographs, documents and artefacts from the base and the RAF in Norfolk. This archive is available to be viewed on request.

Things to see include:

WE177 Freefall Nuclear Bomb, Sidewinder Missile, Skyshadow Electronic Counter Measures Pod, Victor Bomber Ejection Seat, Brimstone Missile, Historic Uniform Displays, Tornado Ejection Seat, WWI Air Gunners Memorial, RAF Marham War Memorial and Memorial Wall, Wellington and Mosquito Propellers, A historic timeline of the history of the base.

The Centre engages with schools, colleges, cadet forces, veterans groups and associations, and the public, in an atmosphere of remembrance, respect and learning.

Group bookings are welcomed and include a 1.5 hour historical walk around tour where a member of staff (subject to operational commitments) will talk about the history of the base and its squadrons. Maximum 20 people. Contact the curator for availability.

The Aviation Art Gallery sells original aviation art and prints, some of which are limited edition. The RAF Marham Aviation Heritage Centre is a Registered Charity, no 1169314, and welcomes donations to improve displays and pay for archiving material, photographs and ephemera and artefacts.
